Abishag, granddaughter of The Witch of Endor, daughter of the priestess playing Astarte to Absalom crown prince of Israel, tells her story, as revealed in Old Testament tales. She is sent to renew the virility of the dying David. People all around her are forced to choose between the old ways of the Mother and the new Hebrew ways of the Father. The struggle is war to the death of a culture and of a people who had based their lives on tribal and family mores, on sharing, on loving freely, and on equality between men and women.
