It is 1947. The war is over, but life is still very harsh. Daisy and Joshua Penny have been married for two years and have two children. Conditions are harsh and life is not easy. Just as it seems they may find lasting happiness, Joshua dies and Daisy must go on alone. Following her husband's death, the indomitable Daisy resolves to sell her boarding-house in Blackpool and start a new life in the country.
