A Welcome Grave — Michael Koryta

Private investigator Lincoln Perry finds himself in the crosshairs of police investigations in two states when an old rival, Alex Jefferson, is brutally murdered. Accepting involvement in the case after a request from his former fiancee, Perry agrees to locate the dead man's estranged son and inform him of his large inheritance.
