Libby Barratt is nanny to young Richard and Patsy Taylor. When the children's mother is killed in a car accident and their father dies of leukaemia shortly afterwards, Philippe Ratier, Comte de Montron, is appointed their legal guardian. Libby finds herself very attracted to Philippe, but she knows too much about him ever to fall in love with him. However, she is to discover that true emotion is something she can't really control.
