In the permissive era of the '60s and '70s, when swinging and open marriages were in vogue, Julia Morley thinks she and her husband David have a perfect marriage. Based in Paris with their two young children, they have an idyllic life. Then David accepts a prestigious advertising job in New York, and the family moves to the United States. Julia begins to feel neglected, and enters into an illicit affair with a high school student aged sixteen. As her marriage falls apart she begins a downward spiral into the world of casual sex and drugs. This includes a near rape from which she escapes badly shaken, only to be subtly coaxed into a lesbian relationship. After a night of sexual swinging Julia falls into a depression as she evaluates her lifestyle over the past year. This is a sexually explicit tale, interwoven with the humorous and often tragic elements of real life.
