A Simple Twist of Fate — Mary Ann Evans

A man realizes that his baby is the result of his wife's affair and leaves her. Embittered, he lives by himself in a small town. A single mother collapses and dies, whilst her toddler finds her way into the man's house. He adopts her, not realizing that a local politician is her real father.
