In a flash of anger a young woman named Lenore Swensen kills her Grandmother. She is filled with the revulsion of her actions but in a short time chooses to try and get away with the murder. It passes by the authorities in the first instance. Then her revulsion at herself forces her to confess. She tells her parents and then a lot of other people including a boyfriend. He is concerned about the possibility of being an accomplice to this crime, checks with a friend who advises him to contact the State's Attorney's office. She confesses to the attorney as well. But there is nothing he can do since the murder occurred near Las Vegas, Nevada in the little town of Basic. Enter Will Jamieson a detective with Basic Police Department. He is a bulldog of a man who hates this kind of case. But he sinks his teeth into the investigation, the extradition and the trial of the young woman to Nevada. The outcome of the case is very predictable but the necessities of dealing with the extradition, establishing that there was a crime to begin with, including the autopsy of the Grandmother after she had been in the ground for nearly a year, will rivet you. Though this is a work of fiction it could have happened in your town, in your life.
