Have you ever wanted to hop on a plane with nothing but your passport and a backpack and jet off to Europe? The author did just that. When I was in college, I headed over to take a class in Zurich to study international currency exchange, but before I locked myself in a classroom, I showed up nine weeks early with no place to stay, a Eurail pass and just enough food to keep me alive until I could move into the dorm.

This grand adventure had me living the dirtbag life across the Continent, sleeping in parks or making camp on the side of the road, exploring nature and history and beautiful places. When I got tired of one spot I'd hop on the train and take an overnight to the other side of the country or sometimes even a whole other country.

I know Thailand and Southeast Asia are hot with discount travelers now, but Europe is a special place full of history and architect and friendly people who love explorers.
