A Day with the Pet Doctor — Katherine Poindexter

Thinking she may like to be a veterinarian someday, Courtney arranges to spend a day with Dr. Barbie, who works at the local veterinary clinic. Courtney watches as Dr. Barbie examines a cat with a swollen tummy and gives a dog his vaccines. Then Courtney and Dr. Barbie take a trip to a nearby farm, where Dr. Barbie takes care of a horse with a cut on his nose. On the way back to the clinic Dr. Barbie has to stop short when a dog runs out in front of her car. She instructs the owner on the importance of having your dog on a leash. Finally, Courtney and the doctor arrive back at the clinic, where they check the animals in the kennel--and find that the cat with the swollen tummy has given birth to five adorable kittens!
