The small and timeless Hampshire village has its ups and downs like any other, but everybody knows everybody else and community spirit prevails. When Squadron Leader Clive Risbury takes up residence, the initial suspicion with which the small community greets all newcomers is soon replaced by respect for the tall and handsome stranger.

But unknown to the villagers, Clive has a hidden agenda. He has stumbled upon a life-shattering secret, cloaked in a conspiracy of silence which has lurked beneath the genteel facade of Hambledean Wicket for nearly fifty years. His heart is in the grip of ice-cold vengeance, and with all the military precision at his disposal, he has conceived a devious plan to expose this secret and visit retribution upon the guilty.
