Series Premise

The series is set in a modern, urban fantasy world where humans, fae, angels, demons, shifters, and other supernatural beings live under a rigid, oppressive caste system ruled by the Asteri (god-like immortal beings who conquered the planet millennia ago). The story follows Bryce Quinlan, a half-fae, half-human party girl who loses her best friend in a brutal murder. Seeking revenge, Bryce uncovers a massive conspiracy involving ancient magic, forbidden power, the true history of the world, and the tyrannical rule of the Asteri. The saga expands into a sprawling epic involving rebellion against immortal overlords, ancient prophecies, lost magic, multiverse connections (crossover ties to Maas’s other series like A Court of Thorns and Roses and Throne of Glass), and a central forbidden romance between Bryce and Hunt Athalar, a fallen angel enslaved as an assassin. Later books introduce more characters and widen the scope to include interstellar and multiversal stakes.

Crescent City Series Characters

> Bryce Quinlan — Protagonist; half-fae, half-human; party girl turned fierce rebel. Sarcastic, loyal, powerful, and deeply grieving. Discovers her true heritage and massive magical potential; central to the fight against the Asteri.
> Hunt Athalar — Fallen angel (Umbra Mortis, the "Shadow of Death"); enslaved assassin working for the Asteri. Brooding, lethal, traumatized, and dangerously attractive. Becomes Bryce’s ally and soulmate; their slow-burn, forbidden romance is the heart of the series.
> Ruhn Danaan — Bryce’s half-brother; Crown Prince of the Valbaran Fae. Rebellious, tattooed, and powerful; forms a key alliance with Bryce.
> Danika Fendyr — Bryce’s murdered best friend; fierce, loyal alpha wolf; appears in flashbacks and as a ghost/memory.
> Syrinx — Bryce’s chimera pet; adorable, fierce, and protective.
> The Asteri — Immortal, god-like tyrants who rule Midgard; the ultimate antagonists.
> The 33rd Legion (Hunt’s unit) and The Aux (Bryce’s friends) — Found-family groups of angels, wolves, fae, and other supernaturals.

Setting of the Crescent City Series

A modern, urban fantasy version of Midgard (a planet conquered by the Asteri gods), primarily focused on the glittering, hierarchical city of Lunathion (also called Crescent City), located on the continent of Pangera. Lunathion is divided into districts by class and species:
> The glittering, wealthy districts of angels and high fae.
> The grittier, poorer areas of humans and lower fae.
> The Bone Quarter (underworld for the dead), the Spring Court-like districts, and the hidden magical underbelly.
The world blends contemporary technology (phones, cars, skyscrapers) with ancient magic, angels, demons, fae courts, and a rigid caste system enforced by immortal rulers.

Tone & Themes of the Crescent City Series

Dark, intense, sexy, and emotionally raw — classic Sarah J. Maas romantasy with high spice (very explicit sex scenes), epic world-building, slow-burn romance, found-family themes, and high-stakes action. The tone is passionate and angsty, blending grief, rage, betrayal, trauma, and vengeance with hope, loyalty, humor (sharp banter), and triumphant moments. It’s addictive and dramatic, with heavy triggers (graphic violence, sexual assault references, torture, PTSD, grief) but ultimately empowering and romantic — aimed at adult/new adult readers who love morally gray characters and sweeping stakes.

The series is hugely popular on BookTok for its addictive pacing, scorching romance (especially Bryce/Hunt), epic world-building, shocking twists, and crossover ties to Maas’s other series — ideal for fans of dark romantasy like A Court of Thorns and Roses, From Blood and Ash, or Crescent City itself. It has mature content (graphic violence, explicit sex, trauma, sexual assault references).
