When a woman's husband dies she starts a new business to keep her family together--a laundry business. A stranger asks if she can launder his pants and she tells him that her boiler is broken. They make a deal--she will do his entire laundry for a year and he will fix and improve her old boiler, no matter what it costs. She starts to like him but her young son doesn't, feeling that the stranger with a checkered past is trying to replace his father. It all comes to a head when he tells her about what he did, and she has to delve deeply into her belief in God to find the strength to forgive him.
