Silver Salamander — Valentina Luellen

Fleeing from the massacre of the Huguenots that began in Paris on St Bartholomew's Day 1572, Gabrielle deMaret is captured by a pirate ship, the Salamander. The captain, a man who calls himself Solitaire, is both an intriguing and frightening figure. Unfortunately for Gabrielle, she closely resembles his treacherous dead wife, and so inspires in him feelings of vengeance. Having escaped death once, Gabrielle finds that she is nothing more than a prisoner - a slave in fact. Soon she is no longer sure who she fears the most - Solitaire the pirate, or Solitaire the man!
