The author was an accountant before becoming a full-time writer and director of the literature board of the Australia Council. He has published several collections of poetry which have won awards, including the Canada/Australia Prize. He is the author of four novels: "The Birthday Gift", "The White Stag of Exile", "Holiday of the Ikon" and "Hotel Bellevue ".
