Antoinette Sparkman was well known as a vile-tempered alcoholic. When she was found dead, drowned in the family swimming pool, no one was sorry to see her go.

Then the word “murder” was mentioned and all fingers began to point to Miles Sparkman's beautiful young protégé. Some said she had killed Antoinette to get Miles' money; others said she had killed Antoinette to get Miles.
