It has been twenty-three years since Aoife Cusack last attended confession. Her guilt over the intervening years parted her from religion, but now she desperately wants to atone for her offence: twenty-three years ago she took part in a heinous incident that led to the deaths of six people.

Superintendent Gregory Summers has been dragged along by his girlfriend, Angie, who wants to study Sullivan as part of her degree. Much to his surprise he finds Deepak Gupta, his colleague, also at the reading. It's not long before Gregory discovers the real reason behind Deepak's attendance; his sister was one of Sullivan's victims.
With Sullivan back on the outside and old scars reopened by his profiteering, it's not surprising that the situation soon turns violent.
