Overpopulation had been a terrible threat.  A genetics researcher had linked the release of egg and sperm to the emotion of love. It was an incredible feat, but the link was too strong.

No one knew why some became masters and some slaves, but it bred true and began to divide the species. If a master fell in love with a slave, he or she could not command the slave to reproduce with another.

Dane was magnificent. The world needed his children, but he was slave in name only. He must become one for Kiev, or he would sire none.

Humans are about to be too close.  Humans know it.
