Description
When Betty Rice of the Redwood Valley Star launched her campaign to protect the bluejay, native to the valley, from thoughtless hunters, she expected some opposition -- but hardly a "war." There were the usual cancellations and anonymous phone calls, but then the cancellations multiplied and one phone call ended in a bomb threat. Betty, whose grandfather had founded the Star, wasn't about to be intimidated.
