Description
Through blizzards and battles with locusts, Kelsey and Patrick begin to build a family. Kelsey's two brothers and Patrick's brother John join the family farm and saw mill operations. Over the years Patrick and Kelsey are challenged by land speculators, a bigoted neighbor, and the mysterious disappearance of Mark's daughter, Eva. After the blizzard of 1873 (when their youngest Abraham was born) Patrick thinks he is prepared to deal with the mind-numbing cold. He walks north to search for their old bull 'Gen Thomas II' and is caught by a voracious blizzard.
The Series ends with epilogs that tell the reader about the success, death and tragedy in Kelsey's sons and their lives.
