Young, happily married, and admired by his colleagues, Nick Mitchell is on the fast track through the police ranks. Working as a field sergeant during a narcotics operation, Mitchell is forced to kill a suspect in order to save another officer. Following the incident, his family is killed in an apparent automobile accident. Months after taking a medical pension, a blood-encrusted medal is delivered with a note indicating it was no accident. Mitchell soon discovers the medal is an invitation for vengeance.
