Description
“Many Mansions” is a phrase taken from the Bible: “In my Father's house are many mansions.” It is a sequel to “A Button in the Fabric of Time,” about Gus, a twenty-first century engineer, who traveled into the thirty-first century. There he met a beautiful woman, married her, and worked with her to produce a heaven on earth where people never grow old and live far into the future " a world free from want and pain. The land, air, and water are clean and pure. To save the land for productive use, people live in cities of glass, floating on the ocean. Each city contains forty levels, and people travel in transportation devices at the speed of thought. Robots do the work, but people supervise the robots. Gus, with Jan-3, his wife, is instrumental in bringing people who have already passed away into the future and thereby populate other planets. In the thirty-first century, people age, but they don't grow old; therefore, everyone is beautiful. Everyone appears to be twenty-five years old, and they dress in silken robes. Earth is not heaven in the thirty-first century, and the people have not been resurrected, but the scene resembles heaven.
