Pets in Prospect — Malcolm D. Welshman

When young Paul Mitchell is bitten by a hamster on his first day in practice, he begins to question his decision to become a vet. During his six months in the hospital where a hawk-eyed elderly receptionist rules the roost, Paul encounters eccentric characters from all over the animal kingdom. These include bald cockatoos and lame camels, as well as the actress Francesca Cavendish -- famous for her cat ads -- and the notoriously persnickety sisters Madge and Rose Stockwell. Filled with zany capers as well as a swearing mynah bird and an anaconda with a penchant for making its way into the fridge, this is a humorous and exciting look at the life of one unfortunate vet.
