He retires from the Metropolitan Police and returns to his home city of Winchester. There, not only does he meet Carrie, a girl from his past but he also discovers something out of this world in the house he has inherited in the St Cross area of the city. A mirror in his study can transport him to another version of Winchester, to a world where World War One never happened.
