For Mary Macgregor, widowed before her three-year-old twins were borns, it was vital she get the post of staff-grade doctor at the Royal Glen Hospital in Edinburgh. Unlike the route to a consultancy, this would be a permanent job with regular hours, better suited to her family's needs.
But, having clashed with the A&E consultant, Mr. Iain Stewart, over their differing approaches to medical care, Mary knew her interview was not a forgone conclusion, because Iain was on the panel! And even if she got the job could she cope working more closely with this seemingly dour man?
