When Noah Amos and Jack Crawford find the bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Jackson murdered in their summer home on Westport Point, they find themselves thrown into a mystery. Jack Crawford, a retired textile executive and financial investor, and Noah Amos, a retired teacher, bring their unique backgrounds and personal qualities to a case which garners national notoriety when Elizabeth Jackson, the daughter of Andrew Jackson and his first wife, is charged with the brutal murders. As the case unravels, the two elderly men find themselves dealing with an unsavory character in the person of Andrew Jackson who had devoted his life to the satisfaction of his personal and financial desires. With each new revelation, the two men pursuing the identity of the real killer find themselves repelled by the Shylock of the title and the need for justice.
