Mekong — John L. Cowart

Jerry Michaels and his navy buddies fight the Communists on the Mekong River in Vietnam. When he tries to remove a Viet Cong flag that flies defiantly on a buoy in the middle of the river, he sets off a booby-trap that blows his boat apart and kills his friends. Having survived the hell of Vietnam, he struggles with post-traumatic stress syndrome and his guilt and slides into a deeper personal hell until he finds himself back in Vietnam with a chance to save his friends and undo the past.
