A Baker's Dozen Plus Two is a collection of short stories and essays written over a forty-year period. The stories range from several Alfred Hitchcock suspense surprises to a children's story about a small Kansas town and an enveloping cloud to an arachnophobic tale of an ominous spider to a golf story about the ill effects of wishing for some playing time with Tiger. The collection is a mix of plots and settings that are all over the board. The essays are also about a wide variety of subjects: trees, birds, Pennsylvania drivers, linguistic curiosities, and a few movie reviews.
