The terrible Civil War was over. And lovely Sally Carroll, who had never done any harder work than rolling bandages for the Red Cross, inherited the almost impossible task of salvaging Greenwood, the vast plantation torn by war from without and torn by its own strife from wihtin.

There was some strange secret about Greenwood - that much was obvious. And there were many men who would do anything to learn what it was - that was obvious, too.
