Description
The year is 1870 and the Blackfeet are rejoicing. A white buffalo robe, the rarest and most valuable object held by the tribe, has been carefully tanned and prepared as a sacrifice during the upcoming Sun Dance in the summer. One morning, disaster strikes: The sacred robe has been stolen! Who is the thief, and why would he place the entire tribe in such danger? Beaver Woman, a medicine woman, charges Red Fox, the nephew of a white fur trader, and Apsi, his Blackfeet friend, with the task of discovering the thief and returning the white buffalo robe to her.

Filled with adventure, battles with enemy war parties, romance and, of course, mystery, The White Buffalo Robe is one of the most exciting books ever written about the Upper Missouri when the great herds of buffalo still covered the Plains.

James Willard Schultz (1859 â€" 1947) knew the Montana frontier well. Arriving at Fort Benton in Blackfeet territory in 1877, he married his beautiful Blackfeet wife, Natahki, and spent decades as a trader, rancher and hunting guide in what is now western Montana. Later in life, he wrote 37 books, many of them novels about his friends, the Blackfeet Indians. The White Buffalo Robe, originally published in 1936, has long been out of print. This new digital edition, with a detailed, original introduction and footnotes by Bryan R. Johnson, makes this fascinating tale of adventure available once more to the public.
