Description
Things are hard enough for Serenity, taking a road trip in a last-ditch effort to spend some quality time with her wife Lillian.

The last thing she needs is an encounter with the supernatural, or even one with the enigmatic woman who lives further down the beach from where they're staying.

But Serenity keeps seeing mysterious lights in the sky, and she's sure they're watching Lillian. With no idea what they are, she's getting increasingly jumpy. Drawn into a maze of fear and deceit, Serenity needs to find her way out, fast, but in the end that means asking herself some hard questions.

She's not going to like the answers, nor the choices they force her to make.
Because sometimes, the consequences are irrevocable.

This is a 90 000 word novel.

EXCERPT

Julie was standing in the middle of the clearing, her hands on hips, staring up at the sky. Serenity slid to a stop.
‘You saw it too,' she said.
With a visible start, Julie turned and looked at her. She held a hand out in a warding off gesture. ‘We have to quit sneaking up on each other.'
Serenity ignored the remark. ‘What was it?'
Looking down at the ground now, Julie scuffed a boot around the damp vegetation and didn't reply. She gazed back up between the trees at the grey sky, rain pelting her on the soft skin of her face.
The woman's refusal to answer made Serenity jittery. She watched Julie's slow appraisal of the scene until she thought she might scream. One hand plastered to her bleeding cheek, she stepped forward and grabbed Julie's elbow with the other hand.
‘What the fuck was it?' she demanded, tightening her grip on Julie's slick parka until she could feel the elbow bones under her hand. She gave it a little shake for emphasis. ‘You saw it, right? Of course you did, or you wouldn't be here.' She shook her head and her fingers slipped in the blood still dripping from the cut in her cheek.
Julie turned towards her at last, her face a study in concentration. Then her eyes widened. ‘There's blood all over your face.'
