Description
A Family of My Own, a fictional story based on facts, will encourage compassion for all living creatures, and educate young children about the responsibilities of pet ownership. The story accomplishes this through the first person account of a young, abandoned puppy's frightening experiences that consequently lead to her adoption from a small-town animal shelter. It starts with her unwanted birth, follows her as she wanders the streets, looking for food, shelter, companionship and relief from the tormenting fleas and concludes with her finding a family of her own. Although it educates by revealing animal neglect and ignorance on the part of her original owners, this is a heartwarming story with a very happy ending.
