After a deadly train robbery, Sheriff John Ryder of Cactus Gulch, New Mexico finally manages to apprehend William "Gun Slingin'" Garrett, a wanted criminal, after a dangerous chase through the desert. Garrett is eventually convicted of his crimes and sentenced to hang. With the entire town looking on, the noose is placed around Garrett's neck.
