Sir Henry Gwillim, his wife Elizabeth and her frivolous sister, Polly, sailed from Portsmouth on a freezing February day in 1801 to a new life in the East. Sir Henry had been appointed to an influential judiciary post in the East India Company. Seven years in India change everything.
