Flora; Or, Self Deception — Charlotte Maria Tucker

Tucker (1821-93), who wrote under the pseudonym A.L.O.E. (A Lady of England), was a prolific writer for both children and adults. Later in her life she became a volunteer missionary in India where she died. Her work is imbued with her strong Evangelical religious beliefs whilst maintaining a degree of realism, and she devoted much of the proceeds from her writing to missionary and charity work.
