A Short Story by Acclaimed Short Story Author Barbara Collins
Excerpt
The Silver Sorrel Somali walked in the gutter along Pennsylvania Avenue, its bushy red fox-like tail dragging in the dirt, a miniature street-sweeper.
Suddenly the cat stopped, and jumped up on the low wall separating the street from the sidewalk. To the cat, the three-foot high reinforced concrete barrier was just another wall -- that it was erected after two hundred and forty Marines died in Beirut when a dynamite-laden pickup truck smashed into their barracks was beyond its comprehension, highly intelligent though the Somali was. The obstacle was meant to protect the north end of the White House from a similarly explosive fate -- not to keep out a cat.
