Description
It was seeing round this intriguing and relatively modern harem building that made Allan decide to write a story featuring some of the European girls, including two well educated young English girls, who might well have been secretly incarcerated in it. The result is a well researched historical novel with erotic overtones - not a mere story of floggings and beatings, but very much a real story of subjugated white women. It is based on fact. Sultan Abdul Hamid II was a cruel tyrant who was widely known as Abdul the Damned. Owning a large harem of subservient white women was an essential part of his ethos. His concubines mainly came from Turkey's remaining Christian provinces in the Caucasus, the Balkans, the Lebanon and parts of Greece but with the occasional abducted Western woman thrown in for good measure. They were all slaves.
