About This Book

"Miss, be more careful when you open the door. You can never be sure who is in the hallway." The elderly man tugged the cart into the room and pulled the suitcases off of it.

"Is there something else I can do to make your stay more enjoyable?"

Noticing his name tag, "No William, you have done enough. I appreciate your help. This is a lovely hotel. How long have you been roaming these halls?"

The sallow-faced man in the gray uniform turned toward me. "Roaming did you say? Funny choice of words you used."

Realizing my question was odd, "You are absolutely right. Roaming would designate..." I went on to speak but the man interrupted me.

"Ghost, a spirit or someone who is no longer living. Do I look that bad?" The man laughed and his brown eyes were amused by my now apparent embarrassment.

Smiling, trying to backstroke, "No William. So, how long have you been working here?" "Too long." His facial expression changed and he was somber. "Take a ride on the old elevator. The others that came here wouldn't dare."

"Dare?" Starting to feel uncomfortable with the stranger, "Is the elevator haunted?" "Yes."

Making light of the man's allegation, "You are trying to scare me. You must know I am a ghost writer."

With intensity of voice, "You have come to the right place. Didn't you hear the whispers?"
