Jamie’s exploits occur over a summer with his grandparents in fictional Casper County, Illinois, the site of the novel, Lost Chords. More than a dozen episodes take Jamie through a variety of experiences including aspects of folklore, fantasy, fear, frustration, infatuation, sheer excitement, and loss of a beloved one. His life on the farm is complicated by the arrival of two girl cousins, Toodie and Jo, whom he remembers as snobbish pests. Their congeniality surprises and puzzles Jamie, who was prepared for a summer-long battle. Through his observations of community resiliency following storms and floods, Jamie learns much about the power of the human spirit and the nature of group survival. As his time winds down in late summer, Jamie ponders these recent happenings. He somehow feels older and maybe even wiser.
