Under the Guns

On the eve of America's Civil War, sixteen-year-old Cassidy Stuart and her family find themselves caught up in the nation's struggle. As her older brothers leave home to become Federal soldiers, Cassidy is left feeling restless. She wants more than her restrictive society is willing to give a young woman. As the war escalates, she volunteers as an army nurse and witnesses, first hand, the bloody aftermath of the Battle of Gettysburg. George Masters, a family friend, is a young man caught up in the war fever of the times. Joining the army seems exciting, offering him a chance to travel, experience a new way of life, and escape his alcoholic, neglectful father. He finds that war is not fun and glorious, but offers hardship, destruction and death. As Cassidy and George discover their love for one another, they don't know if they or the country will survive.
