      This Modern Man is Beat is a novel in stories chronicling the life and times of Habib bin Habib Al Fulan - born in El Salvador, of Palestinian stock, and eventually ending up in Miami. In each story, a different version of Habib appears at a different stage of life, a modern and multicultural American man trying to find his place in the world. Linked by theme and character with singular wit, black humor, and sometimes bawdy depictions of sex, drugs, and violence, it is also a sincere love story.
