The Sabbatine Privilege

The Sabbatine Privilege is a gripping tale of suspense and mystery that surrounds Jacques d'Euse, a Frenchman who became Pope John XXII in September 1316. Some people believed he was a pious man, but his papacy was clouded by major disbeliefs – such as in Purgatory and the poverty of Christ and His apostles. People also believed he ordered the deaths of Knights and many others who didn't share in his disbeliefs. He had additional problems and temptations, including violation of a decree he had written against alchemy. Not even an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary would change him, but he followed Our Lady's instructions to teach the people about The Sabbatine Privilege and the Brown Scapular. However, his disbelief in Purgatory created doubt that the apparition had actually happened. Then the beautiful Temptress of Avignon, overseer of Pope John's torture chamber in the Palace of Popes located on the Rhone River, became an adversary and secretly planned his death.
