It would seem that the entire county had turned out for the Spring Tourney. And indeed, it was a wondrous sight. Musicians played brightly, the tables were laden with delicacies, and in the midst of the festivities, Lady Alianora Wynyate stood surrounded by knights eager to pay her court. But the beguiling beauty only had eyes for the handsome stranger who had emerged from the fog.

The victim of a carriage accident, Peter Everhurst, Viscount Cerestone, found his journey to London abruptly halted. Yet he could not help but be glad fate had deposited him at Lady Alianora's feet, and soon the thought of continuing on his way held little appeal. Though the confirmed bachelor had no intention of falling for the lady's charms, he could not help worrying about her future, for the innocent Alianora was being courted by a notorious rake. Perhaps he should stay and slay this particular dragon, he reasoned...never realizing that in rescuing the fair maiden, he might well be risking his heart.
