About This Book

The poet Philip Larkin once wrote that he spent the rest of his life unlearning what he had learnt at university. The Laurel Harvest follows the fortunes of three graduates who, having returned home from university, discover that they're surplus to requirements. The story follows Paul, an unemployed philosophy graduate who struggles to find meaning in the world and decides to perform an experiment to test his knowledge against real life. He becomes involved in a local political group involved in direct action and falls in love with one of the protesters. Meanwhile his friends are growing ever more strange and extreme as life amongst the unemployed begins to take its toll. A story about friendship, idealism and pursuing an independent life.
