The Heart

Emily is devastated when Jonathan, her fiancé is killed in a motorcycle accident two weeks before their wedding. He was a talented painter, poet and a loving, gentle spirit, so it wasn't surprising that he would be an organ donor. Emily is a waitress at Pete's Diner. One day, Walter, a stranger starts coming to the diner every afternoon for apple pie and coffee. He's a quiet man in his forties and just writes in his black notebook. Emily becomes fascinated by him and gradually discovers he recently had a heart transplant and learns how different he was before his operation, how he drank, smoked and was abusive to his girlfriends. He tells her how he now wants to write and paint and how he was drawn to this town. Emily isn't certain, but wonders if by some miracle, the love of her life has returned.
