The Electrics

What does it mean to be human? If a new class of electrical beings were constructed anthropomorphically out of titanium and silicone, and run on a singularity algorithm that provides each with self-awareness and the capacity to love, where is the line to be drawn between living and nonliving? Human and nonhuman? When Eliza Gershwin's influential father is among the first to receive one of these highly controversial Human Electrics, Eliza does not know either. Her father Steve is quick to decide that Electrics are nothing more than robots built to serve humanity, but the visionary CEO of Human Inc., Henry Sharpe, has designed his free-willed machines with a different intent. As Eliza begins to recognize the transcendent nature of Sharpe's creations, society grows ever more fearful of the Electrics, each of which are connected to a collective cloud that renders the experience of any, the experience of all.
