About This Book

From the diary of Mrs. Mary Watson, née Morstan:

My husband, Dr. John Watson, is an obsessive chronicler, but there are some cases solved by the great Mr. Sherlock Holmes that are either too sensitive, or too upsetting, for him to ever consider publishing. The events revolving around the infant son of the Manchester cotton magnate Henry Waterford and his wife, Olivia, form one such case.

Since I, however, was nearly as deeply involved as my husband in this sordid and heartbreaking tale of murder, deception, and scandal, I feel I must put pen to paper while events are still fresh in my mind. For there are many aspects of this singular adventure that hit close to my own heart.

Too close, in fact, for comfort.

Author's note: This is a clean, short read. It does deal with material which some may find upsetting, including miscarriage and institutional child neglect.
