The Amalfi Coast, Italy, 2006: Valentina and Arturo grew up together in Falerio, and Valentina has loved her childhood friend for as long as she can remember. Arturo is a safe haven; the person she turns to when her father's violent temper erupts. However, they share an even darker secret from the past - one that binds them, but which might also tear them apart.

Arturo resolves to do some travelling before settling down, and so he leaves Valentina, departing for the UK in search of adventure. Drawn to the boat-building community of Lyme Regis, he meets free-spirited Freya, whose passion is restoring vintage fabrics. The instant spark and connection between them leads to love.

Now, almost 20 years later, Valentina, Arturo and Freya live suffocatingly close to one another back in Falerio. As their families are drawn together by a new generation, those old secrets threaten to emerge, and buried emotions resurface. Can Arturo and Freya's marriage survive the shadows of the past? And can Arturo and Valentina come to terms with their shared history and find a way of moving on?
