About This Book
If Norah Lafferty had not attended Tracy Bond's graduation ceremonies, Tracy would never have gone to Stonehaven to tutor young Christopher Fitzmaurice and therefore become enmeshed in the shadowy mystique surrounding the Fitzmaurice family.
Norah was an old servant to Adelaide Warren, who had been a close friend of Tracy's Great-aunt Livvie. And Adelaide had an exciting past as a Hollywood actress, which was why she knew the famed ex-star Caroline Chase Fitzmaurice. When Adelaide learned that Caroline was looking for someone to tutor her grandson, Chris, she immediately thought of Tracy.
Tracy agreed to take the job and was met with approval by Caroline, now an aging semi-invalid. The household itself seemed fraught with discordant personalities, however. There was Caroline's aloof stepson, Hugh, a writer of musical comedies; her stepdaughter, Constance, who had eyes only for her flirtatious fiance, Dante Bianchi; her forceful niece, Nadine Clark, who was also Stonehaven's majordomo, and Nadine's hostile teen-aged daughter, Pamela. And occasionally there was Monique, the small but dynamic mother of Chris and the recent widow of Phillip, Caroline's son.
It was not long before Tracy discovered that a dark plot was brewing at Stonehaven, a plot of which both the source and recipient were unknown to her--until a fateful hand had struck and it was nearly too late.
