About This Book

Stardancer is a tale about two adventurous women who, during their youth, turn westward to escape impossible situations. The novel begins in the Michigan lumbering era, where great fortunes were being made in timber. Both women, Cath and Gitty—aunt and niece—settle in Stardancer, a frontier town in the Black Hills of South Dakota, where cattlemen are making fortunes. Gitty marries a wealthy English cattleman, and she becomes instrumental in helping save the American buffalo from extinction. She is unable to put aside her love for an unacceptable man, and this passion brings her much grief. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Jean Cummings, and her husband raised buffalo in Michigan for 20 years. Because her husband was born and raised on an Indian reservation, native lore is a great part of their lives. Research into buffalo and the western United States brought to life the colorful places and people of this story. Mrs. Cummings weaves an exciting tale of romance and adventure set in the nineteenth century.
