Lawyer Matty Donahue believes in second chances. She has to. Her once-promising career crashed after a shattering, tragic case. Now, with her life finally back on track, her past is about to, repeat itself. Chauffeur Teddy Bellasandro is the prime suspect in the brutal murder of his employer, Isadora Stanton. Matty, truly fond of the irascible old woman, is devastated. Much worse, she feels responsible, for it was on her recommendation that Bellasandro got the job.

Matty doesn't want to believe that Bellasandro is guilty--even though he has done time for a murder with chillingly similar hallmarks. Somehow she must vindicate both Teddy and herself. The cops won't help, the public defender's office doesn't care, and her own employers wish she would just go away. But soon Matty realizes two lives are at stake: an innocent man's...and her own.
